Kendov Dvorec among the very best hotels
Hotel Kendov Dvorec in Spodnja Idrija was once again ranked among the world’s finest. The American publication Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report, which rates prestigious hotels all over the world, named Kendov Dvorec one of sixteen Grand Award winners in January of this year.
Andrew Harper, the pseudonym of a traveller who writes unbiased evaluations of unique hideaways and hotels, visited Europe last year, and among other places visited Slovenia for the first time. He was immediately taken by the beauty of the Julian Alps, and was pleasantly surprised by Slovenian cuisine, having enjoyed the Gostilna pri Lojzetu inn in the Vipava Valley as well as Kendov Dvorec: “Slovenia is the new promised land for lovers of good food who travel in Europe.”
He was particularly charmed by the friendliness of the Kendov Dvorec staff and the excellent traditional meals, which brought Kendov Dvorec’s good reputation across the ocean, and from there all over the world via the newsletter Hideaway Report. In addition to the cuisine and the excellent Vipava-Goriška Brda wines, the renowned American reviewer enjoyed the hospitality of the staff. The beauty of the quaint town of Spodnja Idrija also made a deep impression. He was taken by the charm of the manor, surrounded by linden and chestnut trees, lying amongst the hills above a babbling river, and the interior with its aesthetic stylish furniture and double windows, and tablecloths, curtains and bed linen finished with Idrian lace.
In 2000, Kendov Dvorec was accepted into the prestigious association of luxury hotels and gourmet restaurants Relais & Chateaux, whose members are united by and dedicated to the basic ideas embraced by the five Cs: Courtoisie, Charme, Charactere, Calme and Cuisine. In 2010, Hotel Grad Otočec joins the renowned Relais & Châteaux family.
