Várpalota
Várpalota is located some 25km from Lake Balaton, at the foot of the Bakony Mountains. The Várpalota’s main tourist feature is the medieval castle standing in the middle of its main square; it currently houses Hungary’s only Museum of Chemistry. A Baroque style, Roman-Catholic church, can also be found in the main square. The Trianon Museum is located in the Zichy Mansion, which was built in 1724. The city’s synagogue, built in the Classicist style, now functions as a gallery. To the north of Várpalota, at Pusztapallota in the Bakony forests, the tower and remains of a 14th century castle can still be seen. Várpalota Castle |
