Hungarian Academy of Sciences The Neo-Renaissance style palace of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (Magyar Tudományos Akadémia) was built in the 1860’s. Count István Széchenyi, donated the equivalent of one year’s income from his estates, towards its establishment. The three-level building has a central projecting section. The statues decorating the main façade represent the original six main scientific disciplines. Besides a number of decorative halls, the ground-floor also houses the Academy’s library, which is one of the nation’s largest scientific libraries.
