Karlovy Vary

Karlovy Vary, the Czech Republic’s largest and most famous health resort is located in the north-west part of the country, close to the German border.

Of its 83 mineral springs, the 12 thermal springs which are in operation contain some 40 chemicals between them which are utilised for healing purposes. The healing powers of the waters are suitable for treating stomach, bowel, gall-bladder and allergic disorders.

The world-famous health-resort has been visited for hundreds of years by famous artists, aristocrats and kings, seeking recuperation and cures for their ailments.

Becherovka, a famous liqueur made from medicinal herbs, originates from here.

The city’s most famous cultural event is the International Film Festival held at the beginning of July each year. For golfers, there are four 18-hole courses in the area.
